One major task in the structure theory of regular semigroups is the decomposition of certain classes into simpler ones like groups and semilattices rsp. bands, which are better understood. A key tool in this context is the notion of "semidirect product". We give an overview on some celebrated results in this direction and outline possibilities for future work. |
